Gov. Nathan Deal (R-GA) signed a bill Thursday making low-THC cannabis oils legal for patients with certain medical conditions, including end-stage ALS, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and cancer.

The bill, aka Haleigh’s Hope Act, was named after 5-year old Haleigh Cox, who has Lennox Gastaut syndrome, a serious medical condition that causes her to have seizures that can only be effectively controlled by cannabis oil.

Haleigh was given the state’s first medical marijuana card on Thursday
